A Definitive Guide to Bed Sizes & Duvet Sizes

What are the dimensions of bed sizes & duvet sizes in UK?

If you are lost in a minefield of bed sizes and not sure which is right for you and the size of your bedroom then we are here to help you with some impartial advice. Big Little Duvet Company doesn't sell beds but we understand how important it is to know the exact measurements of your bed before you can decide on the size of your duvet. We've given you all the information you need in both metric and imperial measurements. Once you've decided on your bed sizes we'll help with the duvets.

We get asked all the time about bed sizes and whether our extra large single duvet is long enough or wide enough for single beds and small double beds. We explain how our system works as you read on. The BLD extra large single duvet measures 165 x 220cm.

What size is a single bed in UK? What size is a single duvet /long single duvet?

A single bed is 90cm wide and 190cm long. In imperial dimensions, this is equal to 3 feet wide and 6 feet 3 inches long. The standard sized single duvet is 135 x 200 cm versus our single duvet that provides more length at 220cm and more width at 165cm. If you are an adult or teenager sleeping in a single bed we guarantee you a better night's sleep. Choose from 2.5, 4.5, 10.5 or 13.5 tog weight. Stay cool in summer and warm in winter.

What size is a small double bed in UK? What size duvet for a small double bed?

A small double bed is 120cm wide and 190cm long. In imperial dimensions 4 feet wide and 6 feet 3 inches long. This size bed is often a compromise due to room size but gives an adult or teenager a little more width than a single. A standard single duvet is definitely too small for a small double and a double duvet is certainly not aesthetically pleasing, trailing on the floor. The Big Little Duvet is the perfect size. 10.5 tog is the popular choice of weight however we offer a duvet weight for all seasons.

What size is a double bed in UK? What size duvet for a double bed?

A standard double bed is 135cm wide and 190cm. In imperial dimensions, this is equal to 4 feet 6 inches wide and 6 feet 3 inches long. One of our extra large single duvets is not wide enough at 165cms if two people are sleeping together nor is there enough side coverage to make your bed look dressed. We recommend choosing two single duvets in the tog weight that suits your body temperature.

Do you sleep in a king size bed, super king size bed or an emperor bed and want to get even more zzzzz's?

King size, super king size and emperor beds are longer than doubles, making them perfect for taller people who need extra leg room. You also need extra length in your duvet. And if your partner tends to hog the duvet then we recommend sleeping with two separate extra large single duvets.

Try the "Scandi" way of sleeping with two extra wide and long single duvets on one bed. Research shows that having your own duvet instead of sharing improves your quality of sleep.

Read Helen & Wilson's experience when they decided to take the challenge and change to sleeping with two separate duvets in our blog post " Tips for getting a good night's sleep" Their Emperor sized bed is shown here with their oversized duvets neatly folded and beautifully dressed in 100% cotton, white sateen striped duvet cover sets.
