It's what you have been waiting for, the most exciting time of your life to date. Starting Uni means finally moving out of your family home and into student accommodation. You wave "Goodbye" to your families for the first time even though you'll go back to see them a lot. Although the prospect of fending for yourself, or even feeding yourself might seem a little daunting, it’s time to start your adventure as a university student. Moving away from home, living in halls and sometimes eating noodles for dinner, are all part of the experience. Your family home will always be there but your student accommodation will be your new ‘home’.
Most likely you will be staying in halls of residence for your first year and even more likely sleeping in a single bed. If you've slept in a single bed at home then it won't be a new experience but if not it may come as a bit of a shock.
Not only are single beds very cramped for adults but you will soon realise that a single duvet on a single bed is not exactly shall we say conducive to a "good night's sleep". No doubt bedding is not something that has had a lot of your attention in the past as most parents are instrumental in selecting and buying your bedding. Now that you are no longer living at home it's time to choose the right student bedding kit for yourself and kick off the old small single duvet.
There are many different student bedding packs on the market but the key difference a standard student bedding pack & The Big Little Duvet student bedding bundle is the bigger size of your new single duvet. OMG, it's a case of " Size matters". This extra large single duvet is both extra long ( as long as a king size) and extra wide meaning no more cold drafts around your back when you roll over or your feet & toes sticking out the bottom of the bed. You'll be wanting even more duvet days than before !
Look at the difference in size of a standard single duvet versus the Big Little Duvet. The pack comes with a 10.5 tog duvet, pillow, white single fitted sheet and a duvet cover set in a choice of colours and designs made from easycare 50/50 polycotton so no ironing required, on the basis you have better things to do!
Once you have purchased a student bedding pack from Big Little Duvet Company we can help you earn money. By spreading the word about your extra large single duvet you can become an Ambassador and earn yourself 10% commission for every sale you make to fellow students.

Before you know it, you’ll have lived on your own for almost a year. You may have felt home sick to start, but have made lots of new friends. And now it’s time for moving out from the halls of residence and into a place of your own choice and with chosen flat mates which is even better.
Good luck

Dog beds and dog mattresses come in all shapes, sizes and types from large cave beds, chair beds, sofa beds, doughnut beds, snuggle beds, crate beds, beds for cars, anxiety beds and orthopaedic beds.
The different styles of dog beds for sale are endless but there's one that can answer all your dog bedding needs.
The two most common questions that dog owners ask us about dog bedding are:
“Can dogs have duvets?” “Can you use a duvet as a dog bed?”
The simple answer is "Yes". You can either replace your dog's existing bed or basket with a dog duvet or if your dog sleeps on a chair, a sofa, in a basket or in dog cage you can give them extra comfort and support with a big little doggy duvet.
Dog duvets are great for all breeds, large or small, but especially for those pooches who like to stretch out on their beds. A large dog bed or extra large dog bed can be used for a single dog or some of our pooches like to share.
Dog duvets provide ample room for your dog to sleep on and they are also extremely versatile. Depending on your home and lifestyle a dog bed duvet is so adaptable. Let’s face it our pooches are all different, in size, in nature, in their needs and they certainly have their own preferences for where they like to sleep.
Wherever your dog likes to sleep or just take rest there is a dog duvet set perfect for your dog.
The best dog duvets need to be made of the right material, the right size to make your dog comfortable and to fit wherever your dog will be lying on it.
Why would you want your dog to sleep on anything that is a lesser quality than your own bedding. As a team of dog lovers at The Big Little Duvet Company we decided to be the best we could be in terms of the design, quality and comfort for our Doggy Duvet. As with all our duvets, they are made in the UK. Each duvet is filled with a 13.5 tog hollowfibre filling and a polycotton outer cover that’s both washable and hypoallergenic. Two sizes are available for small to medium sized dogs (90cm x 60cm) and medium to large sized dogs (120cm x 90cm)
Washable bedding for dogs
It’s ok being able to remove a dog cover from a dog bed but unfortunately that doesn’t keep either the bed or your room smelling fresh. The Big Little Doggy Duvet with a removable dog duvet cover can be placed in the washer on a low temperature to be environmentally friendly. It has an outstanding resistance to machine washing, with 99.9% reduction of bacteria wash after wash.
Best beds for burrowing dogs
Some dogs like to burrow under blankets, it’s a natural instinct present in most dogs but more in certain breeds. It comes from the fact that their ancestors were born and raised in dens. This behaviour is very common in breeds such as dachshunds and terriers as they were used to hunt small prey such as rabbits down warrens. The perfect dog bed for a dachshund is a duvet, they just love the security of being able to snuggle under and be surrounded by softness.
Some larger dogs such as Huskies also like to burrow as their ancestors burrowed in the snow for warmth and to hide from predators. Whether you have a small or large breed of burrowing dog they can enjoy nose diving under their dog duvet which comes in two sizes.
What type of bed should I put in a dog crate?
Beds for dog cages and dog crates.
Dogs, especially puppies, should feel that their crate is a safe place to be. Theoretically you can place any blanket into your dog’s crate, but it’s best to give them some extra padding. A dog duvet acts as a dog mattress and fits perfectly inside the cage or crate turning it into a snug, cosy den ensuring that your dog feels secure and totally relaxed.
What type of bedding do dog owners want?
Choosing your dog duvet cover
When our researchers asked a panel of dog owners about the issues they had with their current dogs beds the overwhelming issue was hygiene. When we talked about a dog duvet with a whole range of washable covers for their dog beds they were astounded that no one had thought about this before.
What type of bedding fabric is best with dogs?
Always choose a cotton bedding that it tightly woven because pet hair and nails are less likely to get embedded in a smoother good quality polycotton.
Having said that some owners want that added luxury for their pooches to sleep on so why not indulge your loyal loving furry friends. A snuggle bed for dogs is available, the duvet has a cover made of faux fur with a faux suede backing, this is the pinnacle of opulent luxury and with the additional benefit of being machine washable.
And finally…
What size bed should I buy for my dog?
Size does matter and it depends on how and where your dog likes to sleep. If you are placing the dog duvet on the floor, on a sofa or on your bed then it needs to be big enough to allow your dog to stretch out. If you are placing the dog duvet into a cage, crate or basket then your dog duvet needs to be a little bigger than the base so as to have some extra cover against the sides for added comfort.
When it comes to choosing the right bedding for your furry friend, there are several important factors to consider. These include the dog's age, size, health conditions, and sleeping habits. By taking these factors into account, you can ensure that your dog gets the comfort and support they need for a good night's sleep.
For puppies, it's important to choose bedding that is soft and easy to clean. Puppies are prone to accidents so it's important to choose materials that are machine washable. Orthopedic beds are also a great option for puppies, as they provide support for growing bones and joints.
Crate training is an essential part of raising a well-behaved and happy puppy. It provides them with a safe and secure space, helps with potty training, prevents destructive behaviour, and aids in teaching them to be calm and independent.
When selecting a crate for your puppy, opt for one that is spacious enough for them to stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably. It should also be well-ventilated and sturdy. Consider using a crate with a divider to adjust the space as your puppy grows.
Start by placing the crate in a quiet area of your home where your puppy can still feel included in family activities. Leave the crate door open and place a soft dog duvet inside. Encourage your puppy to explore the crate by placing treats or toys inside.
Puppies have a natural instinct to keep their sleeping area clean. Utilise this instinct by establishing a regular potty schedule for your puppy. Take them outside to eliminate before placing them in the crate. Avoid leaving your puppy in the crate for extended periods without a potty break.
Make the crate a positive and inviting place for your puppy. Use positive reinforcement by giving them treats, praise, and rewards when they enter the crate willingly. Gradually increase the time your puppy spends in the crate, always ensuring they have access to water and toys.
Avoid using the crate as a form of punishment. It should be a safe and positive space for your puppy. Never force your puppy into the crate or leave them inside for excessive periods. Additionally, do not use the crate as a substitute for proper exercise and mental stimulation.
The duration of crate training varies for each puppy. Some puppies may adapt quickly, while others may take longer. Consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement are key. Gradually increase the time your puppy spends in the crate until they can comfortably stay inside for a few hours.
Crate training is an effective and humane method to teach your puppy good behaviour and provide them with a safe space. By following the proper steps and guidelines, you can successfully crate train your puppy and set them up for a lifetime of happiness and obedience.
Adult dogs have different needs when it comes to bedding. They require a comfortable and supportive surface to rest on, especially if they have joint issues or arthritis. Memory foam beds are a popular choice for adult dogs, as they contour to the dog's body providing excellent support however they are difficult to keep fresh as they are not machine washable. A more popular dog bedding solution are thick mattresses, 13.5 tog duvet weight, made from 100% hollowfibre that have the added benefit of being hypoallergenic. Odour-resistant materials that are easily washable like polycotton dog duvet covers are recommended for adult dogs to keep their bedding clean and fresh.
Senior dogs often have specific needs when it comes to bedding. They may require extra support for their aging joints and muscles. Orthopedic beds with memory foam or gel-infused foam are often recommended for senior dogs, as they provide pressure relief and help alleviate joint pain. It's also important to choose bedding with a low entry height to make it easier for senior dogs to get in and out of bed. A double dog duvet can be the perfect solution as you can lie it on the floor or in a dog bed for additional padding and comfort.
Aside from the age-specific considerations mentioned above, there are a few additional factors to keep in mind when choosing dog bedding. It's important to select bedding that is the appropriate size for your dog, allowing them to stretch out comfortably. Additionally, consider the climate and temperature in your area. Cooling dog beds or dog beds like dog duvets that are machine washable and with removable, washable covers are ideal for hot climates, while faux fur dog duvet covers and heated beds are great for colder regions.
Choosing the right bedding for your dog is essential for their comfort and overall well-being. By considering factors such as age, size, and specific needs, you can provide your furry friend with a cosy and supportive place to rest. Whether you have a playful puppy, an active adult dog, or a wise senior companion, there are dog bedding solutions available to suit their individual needs.

Did you know: One in four UK residents suffer from hay fever and more than one in ten experience symptoms associated with asthma?
As part of Allergy Awareness Week (24 – 30 April), we are helping to raise awareness about allergies and the difficulties they cause people in their day-to-day lives – sleep is just one of them!
As we step into spring, allergy sufferers, particularly those affected by hay fever can experience trouble sleeping. Often, the middle of May marks a sharp rise in the pollen count, while dust mites that favour residence in household beds can also trigger symptoms associated with hay fever and asthma.
Top tips to ensure a restful night’s sleep
Keep the temperature in your bedroom between 16c and 18c
Remove flowers from bedrooms (opt for artificial plants instead)
Wash duvet covers and pillowcases regularly at a high temperature (this kills mites and removes mite faeces)
If hot washing is not possible, 24 hours in the freezer will kill any mites in a pillow prior to a cold wash
Leave your duvet turned back during the day
Avoid drying clothes on radiators in the bedroom
If you can, take your mattress outside for a good airing and then replace it upside-down and opposite-ways-round to its previous positioning
Clean the base with a soft brush to remove fluff and dust – if you have to use a vacuum cleaner do so very carefully and with the window wide open
While the bed is moved out from any walls, vacuum thoroughly under and around the bed – it can yield huge amounts of dust and fluff
Severe reaction to pollen? Consider a mechanical ventilator – fans which bring in fresh air through pollen filters
It can be incredibly frustrating when you can’t get to sleep because of an allergy, and lack of sleep leads to lots of other problems such as reduced concentration, bad moods to feeling lethargic.
Practicing good sleep hygiene and creating a sleep-friendly environment will enhance your chances of falling asleep, staying asleep and sleeping well.
This includes a cool temperature of around 16 to 18 degrees, reducing humidity, eliminating distractions, such as banning mobiles and tablets in the hour before bed, and sleeping on a comfortable, supportive bed.
It’s important to be consistent – especially as we move into spring as the increased daylight hours, the start of warmer weather and the onset of allergy season can really impact on sleep.
As pollen count rises, the key to keeping allergens at bay is to minimise exposure to them.
The house dust mite, prevalent in bedrooms, can be a problem for many, so air your bed each morning and regularly clean mattresses, pillows and bedding
Also your bedding choice is very important. The fillings of anti-allergy bedding items are usually composed of synthetic fibres which are largely considered to be better for allergies and asthma sufferers. A hypoallergenic hollowfibre duvet that can be regularly washed is preferable and anti allergy pillows

Suddenly you are in a battle about the bedroom temperature. Remember that your bed partner hasn't changed, it's you that has a furnace-like body temperature. And so begins "Menopausal Mayhem" in the bedroom unless you address this quickly.
So what can you do for menopause night sweats?
Hot flushes and the associated night sweats can wreak havoc on your sleep quality, leaving you exhausted during the day. Investing in specialist cooling bedding products can help make things easier in alleviating your symptoms. Choosing lower tog duvets and natural fibre bed linen with breathable temperature-regulating properties and fast-drying nightwear all help. Also a great way to keep cooler is to have your hair up and away from your face.
What type of duvet is best for menopause?
There are lots of duvet design options but....
Forget the idea of sharing a split duvet joined with uncomfortable zips or poppers where each half has a different to weight to help alleviate your hots flushes and night sweats. Embarking on buying a dual temperature duvet is a waste of money as sharing a duvet still means that any heat from your partner still radiates across to you. That's the last thing you need, right !
Basically the lightest tog weights are going to be the most effective to lower your body temperature. 2.5 tog or a 4.5 tog are most often chosen. A 100% hollow fibre is also hypoallergenic and machine washable so you can be sure to keep your duvet always fresh.
Your partner can stay cosy with whatever tog weight they need whilst you stay cool. A 10.5 tog duvet is an all year round typical weight.
What bedding to use for night sweats?
Once you have chosen your duvet you must now consider what is the best bedding material to combat menopausal night sweats. The best menopause bedding is made from natural fibres because they are more breathable and therefore have a cooling effect.
Duvet cover sets in natural fibres like cotton, linen and percale made from long-staple Egyptian-cotton are famously lightweight sheets and make a great bed sheet/ duvet cover material for night sweats.r silk allow moisture to evaporate through the fabric helping to regulate your body temperature, so you stay cooler while you sleep and wake-up feeling refreshed.
Best to avoid polyester or any other synthetic fibres as these can work like a heat trap increasing your body temperature.
What are the key advantages of a polycotton duvet cover?
Mixing polyester and cotton gives consumers the ‘best of both worlds’ in terms of features and advantages. The man-made polyester fabric is woven with natural cotton to create a hybrid that is durable, lightweight, and soft as well as being breathable and moisture-absorbant.
The choice of fabric designs for a large single duvet is vast. here are just a few from the long single bedding collection. If you are looking for large single duvet covers in easycare polycotton then click here
Durability
One of the things that consumers have longed for is a material that feels very soft yet is longer-lasting than cotton alone. By weaving polyester with cotton, it’s now possible to have a cotton-like fabric that performs well in even the most demanding of environments.
Easy-Care
Polycotton can be washed more times than cotton without losing its shape or moisture-absorbing properties. Polycotton is ideal for bedding because it is far more wrinkle resistant compared to fully-natural cotton fibres so no need to tirelessly iron sheets and duvet cover sets.
Breathability
100% cotton offers excellent breathability but that can be at the cost of durability. By blending polyester with cotton to create polycotton, it’s possible to have a breathable fabric that is also long-lasting and in addition polycotton is more moisture absorbant than pure cotton.
Researchers have proven that the use of pure silk sleep masks often result in deeper quality sleep with fewer disruptions. Better yet, they have proven to boost melatonin levels, helping you to fall asleep faster and leaving you feeling completely refreshed when you wake up.
Use of earplugs and eye masks resulted in an increased amount of REM (Rapid eye movement) sleep and less time spent between falling asleep and reaching REM sleep. It also resulted in less arousal and elevated melatonin levels.
A safe, calm environment is important for a good night's rest, and blocking out light is an essential part of that. Sleep eye masks also help if your normal sleeping time is during the day or when you are on a long haul flight and need to be refreshed when you land.
Sleep mask benefits
A sleep mask, can create a protective barrier over your eyes and protect them from your HVAC. (Heating, ventilation and air conditioning) Sleep masks can also be helpful to people who have nocturnal lagopthalmos—the inability to close their eyes fully when they sleep.
What does sleeping with an eye mask do?
Eye masks or sleep masks work by blocking out artificial light. Light, especially at night, can disrupt our internal biological 'clock' that helps to regulate our sleep-wake patterns.
Can eye masks damage eyes?
Blurred vision – Sleeping with an eye mask that fits tightly may effectively block outside light, but it's not great for your eyes. The consistent pressure put on your eyes by a tight sleeping mask may cause blurred vision when you wake up. The fit is so important.
Do sleep masks help with puffy eyes?
Look for a mask that doesn't apply too much pressure on your eyeballs. If you're looking to reduce puffiness and swelling in the eye area then you'll want to look for a light weight sleep mask that includes heat-absorbing and cooling materials.
What is the best material for a sleep mask?
Sleep masks are made from a wide variety of fabrics.
Cotton is a common material in producing sleep masks, thanks to their softness, lightweight, and blocking ability. ...
Polyester sleep masks are durable, lightweight and inexpensive.
Silk is the best fabric for sleeping masks – here’s why….
Are silk eye masks effective?
Many people turn to black out curtains, but they can be expensive. If you're looking for a more affordable option, silk eye masks are very effective in blocking out ambient light.
Do silk sleep masks cause wrinkles?
Sleep masks that are too tight may cause crease marks on the face, but they do not cause wrinkles. In fact, buying a mask made from silk may prevent skin dragging and irritation caused by synthetic fabrics pulling on the skin.
If you woke up finding another strong crease around your eyes, it may also be due to the fabric of your sleep mask. Synthetic fibres create friction on your skin, dragging the delicate cells on your face, which then results to the creation of wrinkles and creases.
Tossing and turning at night while trying to sleep can cause tugging and pulling around the eyes, so a silk eye mask is perfect because the soft material helps protect the skin which prevents creases and surface wrinkling around the eyes and above the brow and may help prevent dry eyes.
Now that you have all the facts…
Don’t let mother nature’s sunrise disrupt your sleep this season. No need to rise earlier than you want. Take a nap during the day or when you are on a flight.
The key design features for the best sleep mask are…
Silk fabric
We didn't want to design a sleep mask with the same Momme weight as those currently on the market. Why? Because The Big Little Duvet design team insist on taking quality a step further. Our 100% silk sleep mask is made with 32 Momme silk. The higher the Momme, the more premium the silk.
You won't find a sleep mask with a more pure or higher momme silk on the UK market.
Silk sleep eye masks are not like ordinary sleep eye masks. The skin around the eye is very delicate so making sure that the fabric closest to your eyes is not harsh is very important. Silk is super soft and has natural moisture retaining properties making it perfect for stopping the skin from drying out overnight.
Can be worn by those with even the most sensitive skin including conditions such as eczema. Won't leave any marks on your skin.
Design and fit
The last thing you need is to be overwhelmed by the size and weight of your sleep mask. Our team tested a range of sleep masks available on the market to see where we could make improvements. Some were just too big and bulky and gave the feeling of wearing being swamped. Others just simply did not block out the light or the fabric felt scratchy, a definite no!
We created a shape that gently caresses the face with an adjustable strap so that you can decide on the exact fit and is a total light blocker.
Manufacturing
We also believe in working with UK manufacturers wherever possible and supporting inclusive accessible businesses. Our “Sleeping Beauties” range of silk sleep eye masks are made in the UK.
Our sleep masks are made in Britain by a company where over 40% of their team is either disabled or are primary caregivers.
Lavender
This soothing, calming scent will help to relax your body and mind and help you fall asleep. Lavender is perhaps the best-studied of all essential oils, and it can also help with anxiety and pain relief–two things that often keep people up at night. For some sleepers this fragrance can be over powering.
Vanilla
The sweet, light scent of vanilla is another fragrance that will help you fall asleep. If you love the smell of warm baked goods, you can recreate the scent with a vanilla-scented candle—minus the mess of actually getting in the kitchen. Whether you’re looking to soothe nervous tension or calm down after a tough day, a vanilla fragrance can help you do just that and prepare for a restful night of sleep.
Jasmine
If you’d prefer a more traditional floral scent, jasmine is an excellent choice when it comes to scents that help you sleep. Jasmine can both boost daytime alertness and reduce restless sleep at night, a one-two combo that can make a big difference for your sleep.
Sweet Marjoram
If floral isn’t your preferred fragrance family, you can try sweet marjoram instead. Sweet marjoram is actually an herb that has more of a woody, spicy undertone. It smells a bit like oregano, though less pungent. Sweet marjoram can help you relax at night and make it easier for you to fall asleep.
Chamomile
This fragrance can help soothe nervous tension, reduce pain and digestive upset and help you chill out before bed.
Smelling perfume while sleeping
The researchers at Wheeling University in West Virginia exposed participants to one of three conditions over the course of three nights: the scent of jasmine, the scent of lavender and no scent at all. They found that jasmine led to better quality sleep, with less tossing and turning, as well as lower levels of anxiety and improved focus the following morning.
Smell and sleep
Try the Serenity candle infused with the scent of jasmine or the luxury Serenity diffuser to help tackle your insomnia and disrupted sleep. Also has notes of freesia, peach and pineapple.
Enrich your bedroom or bathroom with this sleep enhancing scent before you retire and breath in the calmness.

Getting a good night's sleep is something we all need. Having the right size and tog weight of duvet plays an important part in your overall comfort and warmth in bed. We want to help you get it right and so our buying guide starts off with looking at bed sizes.
One of the most common questions we get asked is about Euro sized beds. If you have bought a bed from Ikea then it is most likely to be a Euro sized bed and therefore has a Euro sized mattress. This means that your existing bedding does not necessarily fit your new bed.
In the table below we have compared standard UK bed sizes with Euro/ Ikea bed sizes. As you can see the size issue is not the width of the mattress but the length being 10 cms longer on the single bed and double bed sizes. Standard UK duvets and duvet cover sets are too short to fit at only 200cms in length.
Bed Sizes | UK Mattress Size cms | Euro/IKEA Mattress size cms |
Single | 90 x 190 | 90 x 200 |
Double | 135 x 190 | 135 x 200 |
King Size | 150 x 200 | 150 x 200 |
Super King | 180 x 200 | 180 x 200 |
The Big Little Duvet - A solution for all your bed sizes - see why below
An extra long single bed /mattress requires an extra long single duvet. Some people have tried using a double sized duvet but is not aesthetically pleasing with duvet sides trailing down the bed, it looks a complete mess.
If you purchase an extra large single bed or an adjustable super single bed from a specialist like HWB Mobility then it is very likely that you are struggling to find any bedding to fit.
Sometimes referred to as extra wide single adjustable bed or extra single adjustable bed, essentially, it’s a 3ft 6″ or 107cms wide bed and because it’s an electric bed it is 6ft 6″ or 198cms in length. (Standard single divan beds are almost always 6ft 3” or 190cms in length) 6 inches or 15cms wider than a standard single bed.
The Big Little Duvet Company has created a specialist sized duvet, made in the UK and measuring 165cms x 220cms thereby resolving the Euro & Ikea single bed and extra large single bedding size problems. This photo shows the difference in size between the standard single duvet in the white duvet cover versus the Extra large single duvet.
But the Big Little Duvet has even more to offer because of it's unique size so read on...
Bedtime is meant to be relaxing and yet for many couples it isn't. If you and your partner have a constant struggle with the duvet, we call it the " Tog of war" every night then it's time to rethink sharing your duvet. Change to the Scandinavian way of sleeping and have your own duvet. No more tugging, no more temperature issues as you can select the tog weight that is right for you, just two extra large, extra long single duvets lying side by side in perfect harmony.
It used to be the case that you had no option other than to buy Ikea bedding as the IKEA duvet sizes & hence the duvet covers sizes were unique. The great news is that things have changed. The Big Little Duvet Company offers you both duvets and duvet cover sets to fit your Euro sized bed.
All you have to do now is decide on the tog weight that best suits your body temperature. We have four different duvet tog weights in the range to cater for all warmth preferences. 2.5 tog duvet perfect for hot summer nights, those who feel the cold all year round or for a winter top up to insert alongside your existing duvet. 4.5 tog for spring and early autumn, 10.5 tog is chosen most often as the all year round duvet and 13.5 tog duvet for those who really feel the cold.
Duvet Fillings - Natural versus synthetic
It is really down to personal preference whether you go for a natural or synthetic fibre duvet. The reason why The Big Little Duvet is made from hollowfibre a synthetic filling is because each hollow fibre allows them to capture more warmth keeping the duvet lighter even at higher tog ratings. Synthetic duvets are non allergenic so suitable for use by anyone with allergies. Also synthetic duvets can be regularly machine washed (always follow the washing instructions) ensuring that you can keep your duvet fresh and germ free.

Big Little Duvet Company doesn't sell beds but we understand how important it is to know the exact measurements of your bed before you can decide on the size of your duvet. We've given you all the information you need in both metric and imperial measurements. Once you've decided on your bed sizes we'll help with the duvets.
We get asked all the time about bed sizes and whether our extra large single duvet is long enough or wide enough for single beds and small double beds. We explain how our system works as you read on. The BLD extra large single duvet measures 165 x 220cm.
A single bed is 90cm wide and 190cm long. In imperial dimensions, this is equal to 3 feet wide and 6 feet 3 inches long. The standard sized single duvet is 135 x 200 cm versus our single duvet that provides more length at 220cm and more width at 165cm. If you are an adult or teenager sleeping in a single bed we guarantee you a better night's sleep. Choose from 2.5, 4.5, 10.5 or 13.5 tog weight. Stay cool in summer and warm in winter.
What size is a small double bed in UK? What size duvet for a small double bed?
A small double bed is 120cm wide and 190cm long. In imperial dimensions 4 feet wide and 6 feet 3 inches long. This size bed is often a compromise due to room size but gives an adult or teenager a little more width than a single. A standard single duvet is definitely too small for a small double and a double duvet is certainly not aesthetically pleasing, trailing on the floor. The Big Little Duvet is the perfect size. 10.5 tog is the popular choice of weight however we offer a duvet weight for all seasons.
A standard double bed is 135cm wide and 190cm. In imperial dimensions, this is equal to 4 feet 6 inches wide and 6 feet 3 inches long. One of our extra large single duvets is not wide enough at 165cms if two people are sleeping together nor is there enough side coverage to make your bed look dressed. We recommend choosing two single duvets in the tog weight that suits your body temperature.
King size, super king size and emperor beds are longer than doubles, making them perfect for taller people who need extra leg room. You also need extra length in your duvet. And if your partner tends to hog the duvet then we recommend sleeping with two separate extra large single duvets.
Try the "Scandi" way of sleeping with two extra wide and long single duvets on one bed. Research shows that having your own duvet instead of sharing improves your quality of sleep.
Read Helen & Wilson's experience when they decided to take the challenge and change to sleeping with two separate duvets in our blog post " Tips for getting a good night's sleep" Their Emperor sized bed is shown here with their oversized duvets neatly folded and beautifully dressed in 100% cotton, white sateen striped duvet cover sets.
A standard king size bed is 150cm wide and 200cm long. In imperial dimensions this is equal to 5 ft wide and 6 ft 6 inches in length.
A standard super king beds are 180cm wide and 200cm long. In imperial dimensions, this equals 6 feet in width and 6 feet 6 inches in length.
Emperor beds are usually 200cm wide x 200cm long. In imperial dimensions, this equals 6ft 6 inches in width and 6ft 6 inches in length.
A standard European single bed is 90cm wide and 200cm long. This is equal to 3 feet wide and 6 feet 6 inches long. An example of a Euro bed would be those sold in IKEA. An IKEA single bed size is longer than their UK counterparts but the same width.
Finding bedding for Ikea beds used to be difficult but things have changed. You don't have to buy Ikea bedding as our duvets and duvet cover sets are a great fit for the IKEA single bed because Big Little Duvet give you the extra length at 220cms.
Whatever sized bed you sleep in one of the most important factors in getting a great night's sleep is keeping your body at the right temperature. If you are over heating then it's time to buy a cooler, lighter weight summer duvet 2.5 tog. In the winter you can combine your 2.5 tog with your existing 4.5 tog or 10.5 tog duvet for extra warmth and snuggle.
" Helping the nation sleep better"
]]>Where do I start ? I've read endless reports from scientists, dieticians, sleep therapists, physicians, in fact every kind of expert on improving sleep, however I had not found the solution to our problem. I know that there are many factors involved in getting a good night's sleep, not least of all having enough space to spread out comfortably in your bed. As a tall woman of 6ft and my partner being over 6ft we need a lot of space. It was time to take action.
After doing our research, we decided to purchase an Emperor sized bed (6ft 6ins x 6ft 6ins / 200cms x 200cms) surely now we were going to enjoy a heavenly nights sleep. Unfortunately it wasn't to be, just having more space was not the solution, we still had another issue to deal with, the duvet!
We decided to undertake a challenge offered by The Big Little Duvet Company, and trial the "Scandi " way of sleeping. This experiment entailed sleeping with our own extra large single duvets instead of the sharing a duvet.
I was mildly sceptical but we were willing to try anything for a decent nights sleep. We selected two 10.5 tog duvets and two x 100% Egyptian Cotton white sateen striped duvet covers sets.
So, I am going to start with a little bit of feedback before we undertook the challenge. With our last sleep of sharing the existing large duvet I made a conscious effort to observe the kind of sleep we had, knowing I was going to be drawing comparisons after trialing the BLD extra large single duvets....
First of all, the large duvet we had just isn't wide enough for the Emperor sized bed. It isn't wide enough to cover over the sides when the bed is made which is aesthetically irritating. Secondly, Wilson, my partner is a duvet hogger! He likes to bunch a load of duvet into his chest and under his chin which leaves me with very little duvet. I then end up pulling it all from under him to share it out which inevitably wakes him up. Every time one of us turns over we pull the duvet with us and take it from the other and so it goes on, totally exhausting.
I am very excited and intrigued to see how this new system affects our night's sleep.
I took a few photos of what the bed looks like with our new bedding. The extra large single duvets are plenty wide enough for our emperor bed and the bed looks cosy and far better dressed than before. I'm sure this would work for anyone having the same problems but sleeping in a super king size bed or king size bed. Take the challenge!
One week of sleeping with the "new system or the Scandi way with our two extra large single duvets, it's been an absolute revelation! We absolutely love it. I can't tell you how much of a game changer it has been for us both.
Every single night has been the best nights sleep both of us have had as long as I can remember. Often I go to bed before my partner but often end up being woken and disturbed when he gets into bed by yanking on the duvet and getting comfy then that's me awake for hours. But now, he just slips under his own duvet with zero disturbance to me and I don't even know he's there.
It's hard to explain too that it's had a really bizarre physiological effect too, knowing we each have our own space and duvets, that feeling of "this is mine" and I'm going to have MY OWN great sleep and that kind of gives us peace of mind and a really positive feeling before we even get into bed that we know we are going to have a lovely nights sleep and as such we really look forward to going to bed for that reason rather than, desperately wondering how many times I'm going to be disturbed tonight etc.... the amount of time we have had the duvet war during the night and then wake up irritable with each other because " it's your fault I had a rubbish nights sleep" then the day ensues negatively. Now we are waking up happy and rested and we are 100% convinced it's because we have our own duvets!
One evening for example, Wilson was really hot and bothered so he was able to arrange his duvet on and off him so it was entirely comfortable for him whilst I was normal temperature so I didn't have to notice him kicking the duvet about. I mentioned earlier that Wilson loves to bunch his duvet into his chest and under his chin which used to deprive me of enough duvet. We don't have this predicament of the middle part of the bed being too hot and there being nothing you can do about it, we can just open our middle side of our own duvets and it's immediately remedied without bothering the other person.
Honestly we have raved about these duvets every single night, it's like we've found a cure, or BLD has. I can't express how happy we both are with them, amazing, such a simple concept with such enormously positive effect!. I can say without any doubt that we will not be going back to our big shared duvet after this, no way!
I love the quality of the duvet covers too, they really have that gorgeous hotel look and feel. They have washed and ironed beautifully and SO much easier to put back on as opposed to wrestling that gargantuan old one.
I honestly thought this was going to be the emperors clothes, how completely wrong I was!
Thank you BLD
from Helen & Wilson (the happy couple)

Has the time come to adopt a new sleep strategy, the "Scandi" sleeping method?
Getting those essential eight hours every night is something that many of us just dream of. And yet all the research says that sleep and health are intrinsically linked to our mental and physical well being.
So lets be brave and honest about why sleeping with a bed partner and sharing the same duvet is under review. It's not that we don't love our partner, but we don't share our facecloths or underclothes so why share the same duvet ?
We don't want to upset our loved one but a conversation needs to be had. Don't panic, help is on hand to smooth the way to getting your own way, sorry I mean your own single duvet.
The Scandinavians have been sleeping with two separate single duvets for years on the same bed. There are lots of benefits for both parties in making this change.
No need to worry about your bed not looking beautiful, this bed has a 4.5 tog and a 10.5 tog duvet side by side on a king size bed. These are of course extra large single duvets (W 165w x L 220cm) and are also perfect if you have a super king size bed or even an emperor size bed.
If your partner is a duvet hogger, unintentionally of course, then there is more than just tension in the bed covers. The constant nightly tug of war is exhausting and can lead to a night of constant sleep disruption. They pull the duvet one way, then you pull it the other way leaving feet and backs exposed and both of you feeling mildly frustrated. I'm being generous with my words. The fact is your sleep patterns are being interrupted when you could both be enjoying a relaxed night's sleep. With two separate extra large single duvets it's a win win.
If your partner has the body temperature of a furnace whilst you feel the slightest chill then one duvet doesn't work. This is another very common problem where one person likes a heavier tog weight duvet whilst the other only wants a light weight covering all year round. If you have separate duvets you can each choose your own tog weight to suit your body temperature.
Phew, can you feel your stress level subsiding already.
Not a problem. You can each make your choice from four different tog weights. 2.5 tog 4.5 tog 10.5 tog or 13.5 tog large single duvets.
You can even combine your existing Big Little Duvet with a 2.5 tog duvet and top up your warmth level when the season cools down. The two duvets will fit into same extra large single duvet cover.
Having your own duvet means you can sleep with your duvet however you like. If you want to be cocooned and swaddled in your duvet then you can. Maybe you like your duvet pulled up really high or alternatively below your neck line. However you prefer it there's no need for a consultation with your partner. You can each select your own duvet tog rating for the level of warmth to keep you at the perfect temperature every night.
Now that you’ve read the pros and cons of sleeping with separate duvets, have you decided to take the plunge and try the Scandinavian way of sleeping?
Great news, now it’s time to select your duvet and duvet cover set and make your next night's sleep, long, relaxed and stress free.
We are so glad that you've woken up to our way of thinking. Spread the word and " Help the nation sleep better"

]]>Being happy in your surroundings is very important and often overlooked when thinking about sleep. Designers say that your wall colour can have a calming effect on your mood. Loving your bed and wanting to get into it every night is a must. So start by selecting a bed style to compliment your room setting.
Divan beds are the perfect statement piece for any bedroom setting due to their versatility, customisation options including fabric choices and storage. Alternatively you may decide on a wooden framed bed in a range of colours and designs.
You need to find the mattress type that's right for you. Memory foam, pocket sprung, orthopaedic, hypoallergenic or hybrid. There is so much to consider so you need to do your research or make life easy and speak to a bed specialist like Linthorpe Beds.
The right weight of duvet is crucial to a great night's sleep. Being too hot or too cold disrupts your sleep rhythm.
How to select the right tog weight for you.
A duvet's tog rating relates to its warmth, so the higher the tog rating the warmer the duvet. A 4.5 tog duvet is perfect for spring and summer or those who suffer from over heating. 10.5 tog duvet on the other hand, is ideal for autumn/winter season. For those that really feel the cold and need that extra warmth it's best to snuggle into a 13.5 tog duvet.
A standard single duvet is just not big enough for growing teenagers or adults sleeping in single beds. You need an extra large single duvet with extra length and width. No more feet sticking out the end or feeling a cold draft on your back every time you turn over.
A large single duvet is not just longer, it has to be wider as well.
Just look at the difference shown below.
Standard size single duvet is 135 x 200cm
The Big Little Duvet is extra long and extra wide at 165 x 220cm
